Review: Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto

Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is the most Japanese-style hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It’s beautifully organised and decorated.

Since opening in October 2016, it has earned a great reputation in Kyoto. I truly loved the details for the outside, with the woody main entrance and the Japanese garden. I couldn’t take a photo of the main entrance but took some of the garden, as my room faced it.

The quality

In general, the quality of Four Seasons hotels is highly consistent all over the world, and I’ve often stayed in their hotels in Tokyo and Paris. This hotel in Kyoto was outstanding for me, because it has an excellent collection of Japanese art within the hotel and authentic beauty in its accommodation, furniture, garden, facilities, food and service. They gave us a room upgrade and a champagne welcome, as well as Japanese sweets and strawberries.

Sushi Wakon

Again, I couldn’t take any photos but we really enjoyed dinner at the sushi restaurant in the hotel, Sushi Wakon, which is a one-Michelin-starred restaurant. Conversation with the chef was so enjoyable, and I strongly recommend this restaurant.

We booked a timeslot of 5:30 to 8 pm (the first seating is 5:30 to 8 pm and the second seating 8:30 to 10:30 pm), and after dinner, moved to a tea room in the garden to chill out, and then went to the indoor pool for more relaxation.

Pool

The pool was my favourite part. I borrowed a swimsuit and a pair of goggles, swam for an hour and then laid myself down until around 9:30 pm. The pool is open from 10 am to 10 pm.

Overall, I was more than satisfied with this stay and would love to return.

It would be fantastic for a wedding and honeymoon, as well. My family loved Sushi Wakon, which I’ve already recommended to many people!

    1. You will love Kyoto! Now the city has tons of tourists (more than Tokyo!) and you would see so many people from different cultures there, but the central area in Kyoto is very beautiful and the local people are lovely! Hope you can come back to Japan in the near future 🙂

      1. I’ve had a few people recommend it to me but never had the time/money to go while I’ve been in Japan! I’m heading back at the end of March (not sure where exactly, it’s part of a university collaboration) so maybe this time I’ll be able to go! 🙂

      2. Fantastic news! You should let me know when you fly! I maybe able to give more recommendations to you 🙂 I’ll be back in Japan for the Easter break or June.
